Mother Rose
Mother Rose are an Alternative Rock band from Southeast Los Angeles. Fusing acoustic and indie styles along with pulse beating modern rock, Mother Rose have made a name for themselves in the SELA music scene. Through their aggressive musical performances and their eclectic approach to music creation, music-goers should always anticipate a great show full of energy and excitement, making them a must-see band in LA.
The band was formed in 2009 by cousins Ruly and Chris Rivas, and the current lineup includes lifelong friends Edgar Rose and David Hernandez on bass guitar and rhythm guitar, respectively. The role of drummer has been filled by two people throughout the band’s career: brother/cousin Tony Rivas and longtime friend Snoopy Hernandez, both of whom have influenced the band greatly. Tony was the original drummer and the studio drummer on the band’s recent full-length album, The Man in All My Stories, and Snoopy was the primary writer for the drum parts in the album and is the current drummer for the band.
With 5 members, each with their own musical preference and writing style, there are songs in the band’s eclectic catalog of music for seemingly everyone. Singer/guitarist Ruly Rivas presents an enraged yet refreshing vocal and songwriting style, whose influences include Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Kings of Leon, and Radiohead. Lead guitarist Chris Rivas brings a melodic and sometimes psychedelic approach to his guitar writing, influenced by artists like The Beatles, Pearl Jam, and St. Vincent. Bassist Edgar Rose brings his Spanish Rock and Folk Rock influences into his songwriting and bass playing, with influences that span from Heroes De Silencio to The Devil Makes Three. Rhythm guitarist David Hernandez brings to the table catchy melodies and heavy guitar riffs from his background in Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, with influences the likes of Chevelle, Deftones, and Trivium. Drummer Snoopy Hernandez has a Ska and Punk background, influenced by bands like Rancid and Ska-P, which brings a unique energy and aggressive edge to the band’s already eclectic variety of musical styles.
In their extensive musical career, Mother Rose has released singles and music videos for “In Moonlight”, “The Self-Seeker”, and “Passerby”, as well as a 4-song EP, Higher Than The Trees, on top of a slew of early demos.
The band then underwent a 3- to 4-year hiatus after their 2015 Higher Than The Trees tour. The hiatus concluded in the release of their first full-length album, The Man in All My Stories, in February 2020. Back in the fold, Mother Rose are fired up and ready to hit the stage again and gain the status of top Alternative Rock band in the LA music scene.
